TIP 3 - ALWAYS answer a door knock!

Ignoring a door knock or door bell is unwise. Often a prospective thief will ring the door bell for the sole purpose of finding out if the home is empty. So a no-response will encourage a break-in attempt...which could endanger your safety in a surprise encounter with the criminal.

You DON'T have to actually open the door, but do call out a response of some sort (e.g. "Can't come to door right now, leave information in mailbox.").
