IMPLEMENTED: All-Way Stop at Wicks/Knowles
4:14p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2019
IMPLEMENTED in May 2025.
UPDATE 2024-09-05: Renewed resident concern about this intersection. Poor sight lines emerging from Knowles, racing cut-through traffic on Wicks and delays awaiting a safe exit moment from Horton continue to frustrate drivers during work and school rush hours. Close-call incidents are common.
We will ask the traffic folks at Ajax Planning Dept to urgently revisit whether this junction now warrants an All-Way Stop.
ORIGINAL CONCERN: On a daily basis, I watch traffic speed along Wicks in both directions almost causing collisions sometimes several times, especially in the mornings. With the no left turn onto Wicks from Hwy 2 in the morning rush, people use Knowles then Wicks as a short cut to the 401. This causes a lot of chaos on Wicks and especially at this intersection.
I believe due to the speed and volume of traffic at this intersection it’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt.
The transportation technologist, in Ajax Planning & Development, informed the Watch that their review of our request for the intersection of Wicks Dr at Horton St/Knowles St be made into an All-Way Stop has been completed. Their conclusion was that, regrettably, this intersection does NOT meet the criteria "in the warrant" for an all-way stop.
